Human Powered Aircraft

Challenge: Minimum weight, maximum wingspan, fastest speed possible.Result: Volaticus Human Powered Aircraft. A radical flying wing design to minimise weight, achieving the remarkably low airframe weight of only 21kgs for a 22metres wingspan making it world's lightest aircraft of its kind.

Prototype Avionics Selection

Challenge: Flying a 1m aircraft with 250g maximum takeoff weight budget, only a third of which (93.33g) allocated for electronics.Result: The avionics set chosen weighed only 64.45g and was capable of lifting a 1m flying wing aircraft prototype, resulting in various sustained flights.

Complex Propeller Design

Challenge: Design an ultra-lightweight propeller with maximum thrust output and efficiency.Result: In general, most propeller designs are 75-85% efficient. This particular design, combining multiple different NACA aerorfoils diligently matched to changing performance metrics along the blade, was 88.3% efficient.
